World Religions in Uganda
There are three major religious groups that have an historical impact on today's Uganda, its politics and culture.
Church of Uganda for 130 years (since 1877)
Roman Catholic for 128 years (since 1879)
Islam for 118 year (since 1889)
The impact of African Traditional Religion on today's Uganda is another subject
(page being developed).
The population remains a target for evangelism on at least four counts:
Misguided religious blindness in all quarters;
Many people remain unchurched (affiliation doesn't signify attendance);
Opposition to the Gospel and persecution of the converted by religious people;
Traditional beliefs and practices prevalent inside and outside the Church.
These factors call for a continued proclamation of the Gospel's Freedom in Christ; practical training to leaders that liberates their understanding; clearer explanation of the Bible to congregations, making better disciples.
The following graph gives an indication as to the distribution of faith allegience nationwide. Different areas of Uganda are remarkably different in concentration of religious association (see table below graph).
