Pastor WiIly Tumwine

Willy Tumwine and his wife Anne are the founders and senior pastor of Uganda for Christ Evangelical Church (formerly Holy Spirit Fire Church) in Mbarara Town.  They have four young children, Isaac, Rebekah, Favour and Ezekiel.

Although Willy's family originated from the Mbarara area, he spent his youth in Kampala as a street boy.  He became a Christian at the age of 24 after a series of night encounters with the voice of God.

Following a stack of gang crimes he became a wanted man and was hiding-out alone.  At his lowest ebb, God brought conviction to his soul and he went to an Anglican Church to feel secure, thinking that if he sat in the "House of God" then God would see him and he would be OK.

On the day he went to Church, the preacher was an evangelist who gave a clear presentation of the Gospel.  Unfortunately, there was no opportunity for Willy to respond publicly to this new found faith.

He went and sought out a friend from his past who had also recently given his life to God.  This friend put Willy in touch with the right people and over a period of time he was transformed and didn't look back.

He became the leader of his new Church's prayer group and a key member of their evangelism team in Kampala.  This team went all over the South-west of Uganda and eventually went to Mbarara Town in 1999, where Willy heard the call of God to stay.  His faithfulness to the call, despite a long struggle with various obstacles eventually led to the establishment and growth of a strong and vibrant congregation in the Town.

The umbrella ministry, Reach the World for Christ, was set up by Pastor Willy to expand the Kingdom of God through Church planting and he presently oversees at least 35 rural church plants in addition to the mother church in Mbarara Town that has a regular Sunday attendance exceeding 800 people.

Pastor Willy has an intense appetite and calling for evangelism and is looking to increase the spread of the Gospel through public crusades in Uganda in 2011 and beyond. You can contact Missionary Ventures to support him if you share his passion for the salvation of souls in Uganda.
A single crusade in a town will cost approximately 2,200 USD or 1,400 GBP.
